An IDEO Props & Thank You!

June 16th, 2010 in Doejo Stuff, Misc

A gentleman named Beau who works at the design firm IDEO popped into our Cafe Agency on Broadway and knew we were a design agency. We connected right away and he was kind enough to invite us to a party at the new IDEO HQ located at 626 W Jackson, it was a blast. Seeing creative design and business agency's grow and spread across the globe like IDEO inspires the shit out of me. The space was amazing and the work would make me for sure proud. We were looking at a kidney transplant device they made sitting right next to a product line of soaps and lotions and on the floor near the shelf of creation was a Trek bike that was designed for people who might be afraid of ridding a bike and it just all made so much sense.

So thank you, and I will mail back the prop glasses I ended up wearing all night and walking out with. In the mail. http://philcoextra.tumblr.com/post/703087095/props

Melissa Pierce is a great example of someone who had an idea and just did it. First time film maker produced "Life In Perpetual Beta" a one hour "documentary film about the ways in which technology has/is/will change the ways in which we think about ourselves as individuals and a society. It is exploring the cultural shift that technology creates as it enables people to live less planned and more passionate life."

So many people would have been held back by the production quality of audio and video, Melissa just rolls with it and captures the right message in a super cast of doers I and many on my team respect and look up to.

Enjoy the trailer bellow and thank you Melissa for just going out and getting it done!

Doejo can "Compete" with Marketing Mine & Agency Compile

May 9th, 2010 in Marketing, Misc

In terms of traffic, Doejo is neck and neck with Agency Compile and blows Marketing Mine out of the water.

I just found it interesting when debating whether or not to pay for these expensive directory matchmaking services.

For those who might be interested in these services, please read the marketing material bellow.
(found on a google search as a facebook post http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=58144047939&topic=7775)

Yelp, what the zip is up with your algorithm?

May 9th, 2010 in Web Design, Web Development, Misc

I love Yelp and I think their model of being a directory for the people is one of the better ones out there.  However, the other day when I was doing a local search to see how web design 60657 appeared I noticed the how inaccurate the zip code location search results are:

The POS industry is Square

May 5th, 2010 in Doejo Stuff, iPhone/iPad, Marketing, Misc

The Point of Sale industry is in for a rude awakening. Similar to the newspaper and magazine industries, it’s too big and too far away from what's really going on to stay relevant. It seems easier for old companies to just modify their current models to try and stay in the game, rather than paving the way by being agile and open to what people are actually doing or what new developments technology is allowing.

As the owner of coffee shops and other retail stores, I have been on the lookout for the perfect POS system over the past 11 years. I want a good-looking terminal, good graphics and online access to my polling and analytics for multiple locations—all while staying affordable.

My ongoing search has left me continually disappointed by all major POS companies, whose similarities include over-priced, clunky terminals, user interface that’s an eyesore and over-complicated software.

So I was determined to build my own. In helming seven coffee shops in Chicago, it seemed most beneficial to help solve our own problem, especially with a bad-ass team like Doejo working with this coffee/office chain.

Our solution?

4 major problems with my paid gmail account

April 27th, 2010 in Misc

  1. If you pay late, Gmail will lock up your account for up to 24 hours. You cannot send or receive emails and what's worst is the emails that were sent to you will never be retrieved.
  2. You cannot auto save emails like most people do with gmail, once you respond it normally saves it for you, well... not me.
  3. You cannot manually add more people to your address book cause your over the limit that I never knew about. Even with a paid account.
  4. You cannot speak to anyone about this over at gmail, google customer service is almost non existent.

I know I can start a new free account but what was the point of me paying to keep my history of emails and files all in one account?
