This month at Next Door Cafe

Next Door Cafe is a modern community space down the street from Doejo in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood. In addition to functioning as a full-service coffee shop that serves Bow Truss, they also offer yoga classes, cooking lessons, entrepreneurial workshops and live concerts.

Here are some of the events they are offering over the next two weeks:

Tue – Jan 22, 2013 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Hosted By Peter Fagundo www.peterfagundo.com
Feeling artsy? Join the conversation about creativity and art at this critique group. Chat and learn about different aspects of what artwork is all about. Peter Fagundo, instructor at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, will lead the conversation about painting, aspects of studio practice, art history and creative contexts. All are welcome to bring a piece of art in for group critique. A few pieces will be chosen to display on Next Door’s walls for the following month!

Even if your new idea is just a twinkle in your eye, you’ll learn basic design tips that will get you on the road to prototype heaven. From mockups to wireframes, you’ll take your abstract ideas and turn them into living realities!

WordPress Jumpstart: DIY Website (Only 6 Spots!)

Sat – Jan 26, 2013 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Hosted By Scott Winterroth, Founder of www.frontandsocial.com
We get it, you’re not a coding genius. Building a website for yourself or your biz can be intimidating, and expensive to hire a pro. Stress not! This (very) small group workshop (6 people max) will walk through installing a self-hosted WordPress website, using your own .com domain name. You’ll leave with a fully functioning site and the know-how to manage it. There are only 6 spots for this class, so email scott@frontandsocial.com to RSVP and get info on needed prep for the workshop.

Let’s Get Digital: Photography Workshop

Sat – Jan 26, 2013 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM
Hosted By Paulo Saini www.paulsaini.com
Does the manual that came with your new camera make you sweat? A little intimidated by a billion and one settings? Get to this workshop to learn the principles of photography and basics of digital SLR and compact cameras. You’ll get the scoop on avoiding blurry images, how lenses work, and get some new perspective on thinking creatively about the environment around you. *BYO camera & tripod if you have one. Class time followed by a walk around the neighborhood to test out your new skills!

Start-Up Bootcamp: Developing Products that Meet a Market Opportunity

Wed – Jan 30, 2013 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Hosted By LeRoy Pinto & Akie Attawia

Whether you’re looking to create or grow your own business, this session will help you find your niche. Using talents, skills and assets you already have (you rock star, you!) can lead to your business’ success. The key is identifying and utilizing your existing network and skills that appeal to the market you already have access to! Coaches at this session will help you zero in on the right product and/or market for your skills and networks.

The best part? All of the events at Next Door Café are free. So head on over to Clark and Diversey to hang out, collaborate and learn while enjoying some Bow Truss coffee. You can also keep up to date with the events at Next Door by checking out their website.
